Abortion Pill Medical Advance Or Setback Essays - Fertility
Abortion Pill: Medical Advance Or Setback? The subject of abortion has created some of the most controversial, social, and moral debates in United States history. On Jan. 22, 1973, in the case Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that it was a womans constitutional right to have an abortion during the first trimester of the pregnancy (The Ruling). Still other interest groups argue that human life begins at conception and having an abortion is murder to an unborn child. These opposing viewpoints create a delicate political and social debate in which the lives of unborn children are placed in the center. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the RU 486 abortion pill, citing that the overall safety of the pill is excellent(Food and Drug). This scientific development has the potential to make abortions much more accessible and private to American women. I believe that the abortion pill harbors great qualities for women who choose abortion, yet is an enormous medical setback because it will cost t he lives of so many more unborn children. For patients who undergo an abortion the psychological issues are some of the hardest to deal with. Suicide rates for women who have an abortion are more than 5 times that of women who have the baby (Abortion-Statistics). While traditionally abortions are very difficult on women, RU 486 makes it much easier for women to choose abortion. Instead of having to travel long distances to an urban clinic, the abortion process can be much more private, an agreement between a woman and her physician (Robinson). With the abortion pill women have the luxury of spending up to twice as much time in the counsel of their doctors than with surgical abortions (Robinson). Furthermore, The abortion pill can only be taken in the first seven weeks of pregnancy and is generally completed a few days later, compared to a surgical abortion which is usually done further into the pregnancy (Robinson). The abortion pill makes psychological recovery much easier because the less time the child is in the womb the less a mother becomes attached to the child. In the United States today, 25% of all pregnancies end in abortion (Abortion: All Sides). With so many lives in the balance, one of the primary arguments has become the physical health of women who have abortions. Of the women that previously had a surgical abortion 90% said they would prefer the pill if they had another abortion and would recommend it to others (Robinson). However one of the side effects of RU 486 is bleeding up to 9 days, compared to a surgical abortions five day duration (Robinson). The recovery process is quicker with a surgical abortion but more traumatic. One death in 200,000 occur with a surgical abortion, compared to one in 500,000 with the abortion pill. Both of these alternatives are far safer for the mother than childbirth that claims one death in every 14,300 births (Robinson). These statistics prove that the safest alternative for the mother in the event of a pregnancy is an abortion using the abortion pill and the most dangerous is going through with ch ildbirth. However the safest thing for the child is natural childbirth by far. The voice of the life in question is never heard and it has a one hundred percent chance of death in the first 2 cases. Based on the evidence and statistics an abortion pill is far superior to that of a surgical abortion. Yet is that good for society or does it just make the murder of innocent children more accessible? With the introduction of the abortion pill, abortion becomes very reachable, changing the way it has been seen in the past and dulling the senses of the common person. Is it better for society to let down its guard against abortion and slowly accept it as common? I am sure the children in question could give an answer if they had a chance. Making abortion easier and more appealing only further disguises that it is murder. I strongly believe that five months cannot change murder from a horrible crime into a choice. Medicine

Corporal vs. Corporeal
Corporal vs. Corporeal Corporal vs. Corporeal Corporal vs. Corporeal By Mark Nichol Whatââ¬â¢s the difference between corporal and corporeal, and what do these words have to do with other teams beginning with the syllable corp-? They are all of a body. As you may have guessed, most words beginning with the element corp- refer to a body, denoting either a human or animalââ¬â¢s mortal coil (as in the case of corpse) or an organization of people or things. The origin of this class of words is the Latin term corpus, meaning ââ¬Å"bodyâ⬠; that term was borrowed into English and is synonymous with corpse, which comes from French, but also refers to the main body of a bodily organ or a thing or idea, or the whole of a personââ¬â¢s artistic output or a complete collection of knowledge. Corpus is the also first element of several open compounds, including ââ¬Å"corpus callosumâ⬠(Latin for, literally, ââ¬Å"callous bodyâ⬠), referring to a part of the brain, and ââ¬Å"corpus delictiâ⬠(the Latin phrase literally means ââ¬Å"the body of the crimeâ⬠), the concept of the body of proof for commission of a crime. The adjectival corporal means ââ¬Å"affecting the body,â⬠as in the phrase ââ¬Å"corporal punishment.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s also a noun referring to a linen cloth used in church services; the meaning is connected to the concept of the body of Christ. (The noun corporal, when used in reference to a low-ranking soldier, is unrelated. It stems from Latin caput, meaning ââ¬Å"headâ⬠; a corporal originally led a small unit of troops.) Corporeal, on the other hand, denotes anything that is tangible as opposed to spiritual. Other words stemming from the Latin term follow: Corporation, and its adjectival form, corporate, and the verb incorporate, all refer to a business registered with a government Corposant, from the Portuguese expression for ââ¬Å"holy body,â⬠is another word for ââ¬Å"Saint Elmoââ¬â¢s fire,â⬠the name for a natural electrical discharge. A corps is a large military unit or branch, or another group of people with a function in common; the term is part of the phrase ââ¬Å"corps de ballet,â⬠borrowed directly (as the word corps itself) from French and referring to the dancers in a ballet company; corps is pronounced roughly the same as the French word. A corps dââ¬â¢elite is a military unit or another group whose members are selected for superior skills or other qualities. Corpsman (from membership in a medical corps) is a synonym for medic, a soldier trained to provide basic medical care; it also refers to a member of a government-sponsored service group, such as the National Conservation Corps. Corpulent means ââ¬Å"obese,â⬠and a corpuscle is a very small particle or a cell or group of cells in an organism. (The word core, from the French word coeur, meaning ââ¬Å"heart,â⬠is unrelated.) Apple's SWOT Analysis Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Apple's SWOT Analysis - Term Paper Example It is one of the largest technology companies in the world (David B. Yoffie, Renee Kim, 2010). A strength, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis of the company reveals a lot of issues surrounding the business operations, its resources and its environment. It is worth to investigate all these issues if a person wants to invest in any company. This is because the tool provides information that can be used by investors to predict the companyââ¬â¢s operational trends, its financial viability and its markets before investing in it (USDA, 2008). Apple Company has so many strengths that put it ahead of its competitors. The first strength is its brand such that it was rated the best global brand in 2010 by Millward brown Optimor. It increased in value by 84% to $153.3 billion. Its customers are also loyal to apple such that they tend to forgive the companyââ¬â¢s product problems. This is a huge strength that most companies strive to get and fail (Millward brown Optimor, 2 011). A second strength is demand; appleââ¬â¢s products are of high demand especially the iTunes that has given the company a huge number of registered users already secured by credit cards. The popularity of its products that have become common street names has increased the demand for its products too (David B. Yoffie, Renee Kim, 2010). A third strength is the design and innovativeness in the products they produce. Apples products aesthetic values keeps their customers glued to the company despite the fact that the products are of premium pricing. On the other hand appleââ¬â¢s products have a unique design that allows consumers to be up and running even without reading product manuals, due to this aspect they have set the standards for design which other companies must follow to outwit them (Stefan Thomke, 2009). The fourth strength is its marketing approach; apple was awarded the title of Marketer of the decade by Advertising Age. It was the first firm to ever receive this title. The company has been able to influence the media, the advertising industry and popular culture through its innovative techniques and marketing approaches that puts it on the fore front as a marketing powerhouse (Appleinsider , 2010). The last strength that can be identified is Appleââ¬â¢s retail stores that are located in many countries. These retail stores ensure that the come continues to receive revenue without having to rely on new product developments. Apple has a few weaknesses that affect the company in its day to day operations though the strengths identified above seem to outweigh the weaknesses. The first weakness is the delay that was especially experienced on iPads. There were shipping problems with the products and also the companies are always put on waiting lists in order to receive products which delay and come with numerous other problems. The second weakness has to do with the way the company reacts to complaints from customers. Most of the time it, will deny the existence of a problem on their products and later come to correct. This was experienced especially with the iPhone 4G that had a problem with its antennae. The problem was corrected later after a long period of accusing customers of mishandling the phones (D.Burton, 2010 ). The third weakness has to do with compatibility issues. Apple has been very protective of the kind of applications to be developed

Consent Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1
Consent - Essay Example In this sense it is meant that the review should be constructed in such a manner that the researcher/researchers can either use it as a stand-alone published material that can assist other researchers with similar topical considerations in their own research or the researcher/researchers can use the review exclusively as an assisting part of their own research on the topic. This brings out the importance of literature review that is possibly more important a part of the initial research strategy than any other part of such initial research. Choice of Topic - The first consideration that a researcher or group of researchers must take into account is the choice of topic. For this, they may first scrutinize the subject they are studying and thresh out a topical part that has scope for research the researchers themselves feel they are competent enough to carry out. It is notable that this is the very initial step to beginning an earnest literature review (Reed, Undated). The choice of a suitable topic may constitute the following steps - Brainstorming - This is process with which the researcher scans the subject he/she is studying currently to pinpoint a topic within that subject he/she may want to research upon. Within this process the subject is broken down into its topical components and basic keywords are derived from these. For example, as in this case, where the subject is taken to be 'information within the healthcare system', some of the topical interests that may get unearthed are as follows: Acquisition of such information; Storage of such information; Retrieval of such information; Ethics regarding retrieval; etc. Next, books, journal articles and other resources that have been recommended for these topics within the main study subject are next scrutinized and studied to ensure which of these topics may be the most suitable for research. Some of the criteria with which this is judged may be as follows: if there is any scope for further research within any of these topics; and whether such research can be easily carried out with the resources and facilities that are presently available with the researchers. In this manner a topic is settled upon on which the researchers decide they want to do research. The topic has scope for further research and the research type is suitable for being conducted by the researchers, who consider themselves capable of it. The topic settled upon in this case is 'Ethical issues regarding retrieval of healthcare information available from storage'. Consultation with the Instructor/Professor - Another adjacent step to brainstorming to settle upon the research topic is consultation with the instructor ort professor in charge of the discipline the researchers are incumbent upon. Often, these able persons are capable of making valuable suggestions that allow the research to proceed smoothly and efficiently. Researching Background Information - After a topic suitable for conducting research upon has been selected, the next logical step is to find background information on it from resources like

Barack Obama Essay Example for Free
Barack Obama Essay There is no doubt that President Barack Hussein Obama II has received much attention and interest from not only the United States, but international. He is not only praised because of his skin color, but because of the values he believes in and what he stands for. He represents something the country has needed for a long time. During his 2008 campaign for US president, he embodied the very meaning of the word ââ¬Å"hopeâ⬠. Obamaââ¬â¢s election was truly revolutionary. His story can been considered a huge milestone in the United Statesââ¬â¢ history. The very fact that Barack Obama was voted in, and by a very large margin, shows proof that the country has abandoned its usual ideas on who is ââ¬Å"fitâ⬠to run in high office. Barackââ¬â¢s multi-cultural background serves to represent the melting pot America is. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Kenyan father, Barack Obama Sr., and Stanley Ann Dunham, a Caucasian woman from Wichita, Kansas. He has gone through many hurdles and has climbed his way up a focused political ambition ladder. Being the first president of African American descent to the illustrious United States and also his many achievements have made him a person of much respect and high admiration. Obamaââ¬â¢s presidency has gone through a series of success and accomplishments. After being elected, he successfully passed many legislations, such as the healthcare bill. The bill aimed for offering tremendous coverage while providing an affordable healthcare. Barrackââ¬â¢s presidency is also branded by other victories such as the $787 billion Stimulus Bill. The passing of this bill took place one month later after succeeding the presidency from George W. Bush. The stimulus bill helped boost the staggering economy. Two years later, he passed the Wall Street Reform to regain control of the economy after its practices which caused the Great Recession. This law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, requires that large banks provide ââ¬Å"living willsâ⬠to avoid hectic bankruptcies, limits their ability to trade with customersââ¬â¢ money for their own profit, and creates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to catch abusive lending products and companies. He was heavily praised for ending the War in Iraq. All U.S. military forces were ordered out of the country, with the last troops leaving on December 18, 2011. With new policies, diplomacy, and rhetoric, he reversed a sharp decline in world opinion toward the U.S. during the Bush years. From 2008 to 2011, favorable opinion toward the United States rose in ten of fifteen countries surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, with an average increase of 26 percent. To summarize, Obama, with his qualities accompanied with key factors such as human approach, empathy, positive attitude, courage to take risk, and bravery to face challenges is a great leader, particularly for the US and generally for the world. His background and experiences in life, united with vibrant qualities of a good leader, make him a wonderful role model and universally acceptable. How Macbeth Lost His Morals Essay
Macbeth is a very controversial character in many ways. Many believe he was an evil man from the beginning. While some believe he became evil over the course of the play. Macbethââ¬â¢s morals gradually deteriorated throughout the play. Macbethââ¬â¢s soliloquyââ¬â¢s, conversations, and his actions show how he lost his morals bit by bit in after each murder. In act I, Macbeth was confronted with the thought of killing King Duncan and stealing the throne. His soliloquy (I.7.1-28)is his response to the possible actions he is about to take part in. He basically said he felt bad because as his kinsman and his host he should protect him, not kill him. Also the fact that he was such a good king made him hesitate at the thought of killing him. In his discussion with Lady Macbeth after his soliloquy, Macbeth states, ââ¬Å"We will proceed no further in this business. / He hath honored me of lateâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (I.7.31-32) Macbeth was talking about how King Duncan has honored him recently and how he cannot go through with killing him. Then at the end of act I, Lady Macbeth convinces him to go through with the murder. Then after the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth flips out and begins to rant and rave. He said after the murder talking with lady Macbeth, ââ¬Å"To know my deed, ââ¬â¢twere best not know myself.â⬠(II.2.73) This showed his extreme guilt and regret of the crime he just committed. Then, in act III, Macbethââ¬â¢s soliloquy (III.1.47-72) he stated his fears and hatred of Banquo because he was so good. He then called for two murderers to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Macbeth needed no motivation for this action other than fear, and he had no hesitation in this decision as with the murder of King Duncan. But after Macbeth knows Banquo is dead, he saw his ghost at his dinner party, taunting him (III.4.40-105). This was a form of his conscience making him feel guilty for what he did. Though his reaction to Banquoââ¬â¢s murder is equally as volatile as King Duncanââ¬â¢s, the build up preceding the murder shows a stark contrast. Before the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth had resisted the thought much longer than with the murder of Banquo, which he had no major moral dilemmaââ¬â¢s before hand. It seemed as though it was becoming easier and easier for Macbeth to kill without remorse. Finally, in act IV Macbeth makes a statement that showed his moral deterioration very well. After talking with Lennox about how Macduff had fled to England, Macbeth said in his soliloquy, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦From this moment/ The very firstlings of my heart shall be/ The firstlings of my hand.â⬠(IV.2.146-148) Macbeth said that now the first thing that came to mind would be the first thing he did. The next thing he said was, ââ¬Å"The castle of Macduff I will surprise,/ Seize upon Fife, five to the edge oââ¬â¢ the sword/ His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate soulsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ .(IV.2.150-152) The first thing that came to his mind was to kill Macduffââ¬â¢s family. He had no second thoughts like the first two murders, no last minute guilt trips either, just cold blooded killing. When Macbeth meets Macduff in the battle field he said, ââ¬Å"Of all men else I have avoided thee./ But get thee back, my soul is too much charged/ with blood of thine already.(V.8.4-6) That was a litt le sign of remorse by saying that he has too much of Macduffââ¬â¢s familyââ¬â¢s death on his soul, that he doesnââ¬â¢t want another. Macbethââ¬â¢s moral deterioration throughout the play is very evident if one looks at the moments preceding and following the murders. In the first quell, there was a long build up and many moral objections by Macbeth. Also after the murder, Macbeth was extremely disturbed by what he had just done. Then, before the second killing, there was less of a build up and no moral objections by Macbeth. After the murder of Banquo, Macbeth still felt some guilt, which manifested itself in the hallucination of the ghost. Finally, prior to the third murder, there was no moral dilemma about about killing Macduffââ¬â¢s family. Following the murder, he showed almost no remorse, except for the comment made to Macduff. Macbeth was a good man in the beginning of the play, but his morals deteriorated more with each murder he committed.
