La Siest A Known Component Of The Spanish Culture
La Siesta is a commonly known component of the Spanish culture. In seeking to strike a balance between work and pleasure, for long Spaniards have practiced the traditional siesta. Professionals along with students often return to their respective homes around noon for a couple of hours to rest and enjoy family time coupled with a heavy lunch. Most businesses will always shut down for a few hours during this time. Conversely, the 21st century Spanish generation has slowly evaded this cultural practice. Much as the big cities are constantly busy moving at faster paces similar to most Western countries, smaller towns and villages nonetheless continue to take siestas as part of their daily routine (Thyberg). Attending Tapas: Tapa holds as one of the most famous Spanish traditions and a major tourist attraction for centuries. However, Tapa has its roots from ancient Spain. Interestingly, Tapa is not necessarily a specific food but a way of eating certain foods. They are always small portions of food and can be any type of food packaged uniquely. Spanish terminology for Tapa is tapear and going for Tapa hardly implies ordering several dishes in one particular restaurant, but bar hopping from one restaurant to another eating a different Tapa for each round in every spot. Spanish Flamenco: Itââ¬â¢s probably the most common and famous traditions in Spain but often misunderstood by outsiders. To begin with, Flamenco is not actually a dancing style, although it might at times include

Business Organization And Policy Human Resource Intervention
Question: Task: Mergers and acquisitions cannot be allowed to take place in the business environment uncontrolled, as they pose serious threats to the economy and society at large. On the other hand, they cannot be stopped outright as they also have some positive attributes. You are required to analyse the accompanying Case Study and write an analytical business report that covers the following three tasks: Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of mergers and acquisitions to the business environment. Examine and evaluate the laws governing Mergers and Acquisitions in the UK. Discuss how Shell Plc (the oil company) can practise CSR to improve the quality of life in the society in which they operate and the wider business environment.? Answer: Introduction The business organization is based out of its unique structures which help the business to give the best of services to the people with its policy and structures. The Tesco from UK, the major in the retail store segment is been selected to express the organization structures ad policy that helps the business to extract the best of mileage from the market that it operates in. MacQueen and Miller (1960) suggest that having solid organizational policy makes the working of the business efficient where all knows what to do in which situation thus helping the clients and the business mutually. The policies are the set of boundaries that the business set to have the operations standardized and the business processes have an identical flow in each case. Hence, it can be said that the business implements the policies and structures in accordance to the operational affectivity in the mark of oligopoly which makes it distinct from others. The policies and structure also ensures the effectivenes s and management controls over the business process. Tesco the retailer is been chosen to illustrate the policies and organizational structure that it follows in the business conduct, in the report. Department and Structures in Retails The retailers business is a unique business that has its own deportation, controls and operational needs separate from those of other businesses. A retail business comprise of stocking, attracting clients, selling ad keeping records of the same and replenishing the goods sold for future sales. The various departmental coordination is supposed to give a brief of how the business is ran from the business point of view. This also makes the scope for new organizational affectivity and business processes as suited for the kind of transaction that is done in retails. Tesco is a classical example of the departmentalization and structures therein for the suited deliveries with utmost consumer satisfaction. Thus the best of its affectivity in operations is seen in the way they have devised the organizational structure and thus people allocation for the same. The retails makes the mind turn to a different set of operational hierarchy where the best is obtained from the multi talented sales for ce and structural policies of the organization. The each organization is discussed in brief with the business terminology applicable for those (De Clercq et al. 2013). Finances The finance plays a pivotal role in making the organization competent to monitor its finances and allocate the ever changing budget in respect to the profitability with changes as needed. The policies are guided by the broader aspect of financial gains that the business wishes to have with certain change in the secondary financial planning to gain the primary target. The secondary adjustments are made by implementing the product line as primary target of sales that given the maximum profits in same products of different brands. The control of expenditure, the discount scheme, the free gift schemes are all made and needs meticulous judgement of finance before placing it for sales. Further finance also have a role that is statutory in declaration to employees and government about the earnings and mechanisms in place to calculate them. All this balances are in place to get a accurate reading of the financed and sales tally by the senior management to get a scheme of their future desire on practice (Anyadike-Danes et al. 2005). Internal Survey This tool of internal survey plays a pivotal role in defining responsibility of each stuff so that the authorities as well as the clients are aware of it in case of a mishap. New policies or schemes are based on the internal surveys where both employee and clients take part at Tesco. The responsibility fixing, chain of command, hierarchy, new policy communication issues are part of the survey and make a place in the survey report. This not only helps the organization but also aids the people working in an efficient manner where they understands and appreciates the need for the change as recommended and work towards personal benefits. The survey also means that the idea those people working in the business have are being expressed. The best feedback that may come from a person have the ability to turn the business wheels in its favour or have the capacity to improve upon the practices ad gain more consumer satisfaction. The other implication is that this survey gives a great implicati on of the services served and thus the structural and cultural sect of the organization (Rakowska et al. 2015) Evaluation of organizational performance The organization of Tesco is dependent upon its structures for a smooth functioning. The functioning has developed its structures which later controlled the structure to gather and implement the desired out of people. Thus performance evaluation is the key to implement the desired while organizational performance stability is a donation of the organizational performances. The day to day operations needs clarity of responsibility and duties which are further classified in hierarchy that determines who takes what decision and who is responsible for what. This has the duel effect of assignment of task and evaluation of results (De Clercq et al. 2013). The past performances can be well established with present changed performance standards to have an idea of the progress or change for betterment the organization has made. However, success or failure of a policy is time and trial dependent, so the same can be measured and determined with a solid evaluation process that helps the managers to see the difference achieved with the changed agenda. The performance may be dependent upon many issues, especially on what the strategic achievement that the business leaders wish to achieve. It may be on sales volume, new consumer generation, product sales, profit making like quantum on which the performance management of organization is build. Impact to Organization The impact to organization is the changes that the processes have made to the business processes and the profit making or operational structure of the business with the implementation. This evaluation is not a short time job but needs meticulously calculating the past performance with the present needs of business to come to a conclusion of how well the performance is in the business. Thus the impact on organization can be determined by the change that the processes have brought in that can be denoted by numbers to conclude how successful the efforts were. When the change sought is in the production the amount of increase in production rate, the benefits of the same can be found or the targeted sales or shopping pattern changes can also be measured with numerical if the calculating aspects is quantified by the increase in segment that it could draw towards itself with such difference in quantifiable results. The benefits calculated would be the key determinant of the segment. Thus th e structural policy change is determinant from the various decisions that the business undertakes and thus the productivity too is dependent in terms of profit making on the set hierarchy f the retail business (Foshay et al, 2013). The organizational structures of Tesco is there to give an impression on what and how the business is planning to have its operations in respect to the existent market conditions. The organizational culture is well dependent on the same as they closely represent the number of people employed and the job role of each in having the overall business objectives met. Functionally, divisionally and structurally the differences are met depending upon the responsibility and area the manpower is given to manage. The knowledge level and expertise is thus equated on those lines too to determine what the specific area has achieved what and what is expected more out of the areas identified. The manpower and the role of the same in such a case is also pre determined by the business so that it have a clue about what to expect from whole and whom to ask for what. The performance management tools of the Tescos business are also closely tied with the identified hierarchy so that the determination of r ole and its performance is judged in an efficient manner and do not have a holistic approach that de-motivates the performer. Again, the structure determines who reports whom and regarding what making the relationship of repartee with the boss even and measured. The organization has devised its work policies and norms to determine the role of the change adoption, performance enhancement, new training, area specific role through the increased flexibility and clarity of organizational structures (Lindgreen and Hingley, 2003). The factors those determines the individual behaviour is the personality, attitude of service to the consumers and leadership styles that suites the personnel as well as operations of the section of the operations. The Tesco UK have a standardized policy of determining the roles and responsibilities of each section and job processes where the people and the hierarchy is set likewise to support the work and operations of the business. The different leadership style of people also determines the kind of people that the organization has to undertake while enhancing the departmental performance. The lowing of absenteeism, increased motivation to perform, innovation for better output are all the organizational structure formulation gifts which the business undertakes in the organizational development of the business in the short and long term keeping the crunch of other performers in mind. The balance of rewards too is being determines in the same process that is complementing the designe d structure and operations. It also gives a overall clarity of roles and responsibilities giving the people the integration under one Tesco umbrella to give the best of efficiency and get rewarded and help the business to perform its level best (Lindgreen and Hingley, 2003). Conclusion The approaches those determines the Human resource intervention in forming the distinct differences of position, job role and its execution in terms of who is responsible for what is the approach of Tesco management. The human relation approaches, social system approach, the relationship between people in the group and the contingency shifts are all pre-determined in the case of Tesco that gives it the added advantage to business. It gives a clarity to the business of what to do when to do and who is supposed to do a particular in the time of need. Thus the people are aware of their roles and responsibilities and are thus responsible for the same. This keeps ambiguity of performance out while keeps the business and situations there in controlled with a strict of to do and responsibility chain. Its been set under the Maslows theory of hierarchy and Herzbergs two factor theory so that the people are aware of there roles and performs with utmost care of those roles and responsibilities so that as per the Vrooms expectancy theory the operation sees no break of protocol while performing its daily job. Abortion Pill Medical Advance Or Setback Essays - Fertility
Abortion Pill: Medical Advance Or Setback? The subject of abortion has created some of the most controversial, social, and moral debates in United States history. On Jan. 22, 1973, in the case Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that it was a womans constitutional right to have an abortion during the first trimester of the pregnancy (The Ruling). Still other interest groups argue that human life begins at conception and having an abortion is murder to an unborn child. These opposing viewpoints create a delicate political and social debate in which the lives of unborn children are placed in the center. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the RU 486 abortion pill, citing that the overall safety of the pill is excellent(Food and Drug). This scientific development has the potential to make abortions much more accessible and private to American women. I believe that the abortion pill harbors great qualities for women who choose abortion, yet is an enormous medical setback because it will cost t he lives of so many more unborn children. For patients who undergo an abortion the psychological issues are some of the hardest to deal with. Suicide rates for women who have an abortion are more than 5 times that of women who have the baby (Abortion-Statistics). While traditionally abortions are very difficult on women, RU 486 makes it much easier for women to choose abortion. Instead of having to travel long distances to an urban clinic, the abortion process can be much more private, an agreement between a woman and her physician (Robinson). With the abortion pill women have the luxury of spending up to twice as much time in the counsel of their doctors than with surgical abortions (Robinson). Furthermore, The abortion pill can only be taken in the first seven weeks of pregnancy and is generally completed a few days later, compared to a surgical abortion which is usually done further into the pregnancy (Robinson). The abortion pill makes psychological recovery much easier because the less time the child is in the womb the less a mother becomes attached to the child. In the United States today, 25% of all pregnancies end in abortion (Abortion: All Sides). With so many lives in the balance, one of the primary arguments has become the physical health of women who have abortions. Of the women that previously had a surgical abortion 90% said they would prefer the pill if they had another abortion and would recommend it to others (Robinson). However one of the side effects of RU 486 is bleeding up to 9 days, compared to a surgical abortions five day duration (Robinson). The recovery process is quicker with a surgical abortion but more traumatic. One death in 200,000 occur with a surgical abortion, compared to one in 500,000 with the abortion pill. Both of these alternatives are far safer for the mother than childbirth that claims one death in every 14,300 births (Robinson). These statistics prove that the safest alternative for the mother in the event of a pregnancy is an abortion using the abortion pill and the most dangerous is going through with ch ildbirth. However the safest thing for the child is natural childbirth by far. The voice of the life in question is never heard and it has a one hundred percent chance of death in the first 2 cases. Based on the evidence and statistics an abortion pill is far superior to that of a surgical abortion. Yet is that good for society or does it just make the murder of innocent children more accessible? With the introduction of the abortion pill, abortion becomes very reachable, changing the way it has been seen in the past and dulling the senses of the common person. Is it better for society to let down its guard against abortion and slowly accept it as common? I am sure the children in question could give an answer if they had a chance. Making abortion easier and more appealing only further disguises that it is murder. I strongly believe that five months cannot change murder from a horrible crime into a choice. Medicine

Corporal vs. Corporeal
Corporal vs. Corporeal Corporal vs. Corporeal Corporal vs. Corporeal By Mark Nichol Whatââ¬â¢s the difference between corporal and corporeal, and what do these words have to do with other teams beginning with the syllable corp-? They are all of a body. As you may have guessed, most words beginning with the element corp- refer to a body, denoting either a human or animalââ¬â¢s mortal coil (as in the case of corpse) or an organization of people or things. The origin of this class of words is the Latin term corpus, meaning ââ¬Å"bodyâ⬠; that term was borrowed into English and is synonymous with corpse, which comes from French, but also refers to the main body of a bodily organ or a thing or idea, or the whole of a personââ¬â¢s artistic output or a complete collection of knowledge. Corpus is the also first element of several open compounds, including ââ¬Å"corpus callosumâ⬠(Latin for, literally, ââ¬Å"callous bodyâ⬠), referring to a part of the brain, and ââ¬Å"corpus delictiâ⬠(the Latin phrase literally means ââ¬Å"the body of the crimeâ⬠), the concept of the body of proof for commission of a crime. The adjectival corporal means ââ¬Å"affecting the body,â⬠as in the phrase ââ¬Å"corporal punishment.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s also a noun referring to a linen cloth used in church services; the meaning is connected to the concept of the body of Christ. (The noun corporal, when used in reference to a low-ranking soldier, is unrelated. It stems from Latin caput, meaning ââ¬Å"headâ⬠; a corporal originally led a small unit of troops.) Corporeal, on the other hand, denotes anything that is tangible as opposed to spiritual. Other words stemming from the Latin term follow: Corporation, and its adjectival form, corporate, and the verb incorporate, all refer to a business registered with a government Corposant, from the Portuguese expression for ââ¬Å"holy body,â⬠is another word for ââ¬Å"Saint Elmoââ¬â¢s fire,â⬠the name for a natural electrical discharge. A corps is a large military unit or branch, or another group of people with a function in common; the term is part of the phrase ââ¬Å"corps de ballet,â⬠borrowed directly (as the word corps itself) from French and referring to the dancers in a ballet company; corps is pronounced roughly the same as the French word. A corps dââ¬â¢elite is a military unit or another group whose members are selected for superior skills or other qualities. Corpsman (from membership in a medical corps) is a synonym for medic, a soldier trained to provide basic medical care; it also refers to a member of a government-sponsored service group, such as the National Conservation Corps. Corpulent means ââ¬Å"obese,â⬠and a corpuscle is a very small particle or a cell or group of cells in an organism. (The word core, from the French word coeur, meaning ââ¬Å"heart,â⬠is unrelated.) Apple's SWOT Analysis Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Apple's SWOT Analysis - Term Paper Example It is one of the largest technology companies in the world (David B. Yoffie, Renee Kim, 2010). A strength, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis of the company reveals a lot of issues surrounding the business operations, its resources and its environment. It is worth to investigate all these issues if a person wants to invest in any company. This is because the tool provides information that can be used by investors to predict the companyââ¬â¢s operational trends, its financial viability and its markets before investing in it (USDA, 2008). Apple Company has so many strengths that put it ahead of its competitors. The first strength is its brand such that it was rated the best global brand in 2010 by Millward brown Optimor. It increased in value by 84% to $153.3 billion. Its customers are also loyal to apple such that they tend to forgive the companyââ¬â¢s product problems. This is a huge strength that most companies strive to get and fail (Millward brown Optimor, 2 011). A second strength is demand; appleââ¬â¢s products are of high demand especially the iTunes that has given the company a huge number of registered users already secured by credit cards. The popularity of its products that have become common street names has increased the demand for its products too (David B. Yoffie, Renee Kim, 2010). A third strength is the design and innovativeness in the products they produce. Apples products aesthetic values keeps their customers glued to the company despite the fact that the products are of premium pricing. On the other hand appleââ¬â¢s products have a unique design that allows consumers to be up and running even without reading product manuals, due to this aspect they have set the standards for design which other companies must follow to outwit them (Stefan Thomke, 2009). The fourth strength is its marketing approach; apple was awarded the title of Marketer of the decade by Advertising Age. It was the first firm to ever receive this title. The company has been able to influence the media, the advertising industry and popular culture through its innovative techniques and marketing approaches that puts it on the fore front as a marketing powerhouse (Appleinsider , 2010). The last strength that can be identified is Appleââ¬â¢s retail stores that are located in many countries. These retail stores ensure that the come continues to receive revenue without having to rely on new product developments. Apple has a few weaknesses that affect the company in its day to day operations though the strengths identified above seem to outweigh the weaknesses. The first weakness is the delay that was especially experienced on iPads. There were shipping problems with the products and also the companies are always put on waiting lists in order to receive products which delay and come with numerous other problems. The second weakness has to do with the way the company reacts to complaints from customers. Most of the time it, will deny the existence of a problem on their products and later come to correct. This was experienced especially with the iPhone 4G that had a problem with its antennae. The problem was corrected later after a long period of accusing customers of mishandling the phones (D.Burton, 2010 ). The third weakness has to do with compatibility issues. Apple has been very protective of the kind of applications to be developed

Consent Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1
Consent - Essay Example In this sense it is meant that the review should be constructed in such a manner that the researcher/researchers can either use it as a stand-alone published material that can assist other researchers with similar topical considerations in their own research or the researcher/researchers can use the review exclusively as an assisting part of their own research on the topic. This brings out the importance of literature review that is possibly more important a part of the initial research strategy than any other part of such initial research. Choice of Topic - The first consideration that a researcher or group of researchers must take into account is the choice of topic. For this, they may first scrutinize the subject they are studying and thresh out a topical part that has scope for research the researchers themselves feel they are competent enough to carry out. It is notable that this is the very initial step to beginning an earnest literature review (Reed, Undated). The choice of a suitable topic may constitute the following steps - Brainstorming - This is process with which the researcher scans the subject he/she is studying currently to pinpoint a topic within that subject he/she may want to research upon. Within this process the subject is broken down into its topical components and basic keywords are derived from these. For example, as in this case, where the subject is taken to be 'information within the healthcare system', some of the topical interests that may get unearthed are as follows: Acquisition of such information; Storage of such information; Retrieval of such information; Ethics regarding retrieval; etc. Next, books, journal articles and other resources that have been recommended for these topics within the main study subject are next scrutinized and studied to ensure which of these topics may be the most suitable for research. Some of the criteria with which this is judged may be as follows: if there is any scope for further research within any of these topics; and whether such research can be easily carried out with the resources and facilities that are presently available with the researchers. In this manner a topic is settled upon on which the researchers decide they want to do research. The topic has scope for further research and the research type is suitable for being conducted by the researchers, who consider themselves capable of it. The topic settled upon in this case is 'Ethical issues regarding retrieval of healthcare information available from storage'. Consultation with the Instructor/Professor - Another adjacent step to brainstorming to settle upon the research topic is consultation with the instructor ort professor in charge of the discipline the researchers are incumbent upon. Often, these able persons are capable of making valuable suggestions that allow the research to proceed smoothly and efficiently. Researching Background Information - After a topic suitable for conducting research upon has been selected, the next logical step is to find background information on it from resources like
